COVID-19 Updates

As we reopen on May 1st, we know many of you have questions about what we will be doing to protect our patients and ourselves from COVID-19.

We have always followed industry standard guidelines to prevent the transmission of infections in orthodontic offices. We are fortunate in that much of what we do is less invasive than in other fields of dentistry.

Still, we plan on implementing the following additional precautions in our office beginning May 1st:

  • Everyone entering our building, including all patients, parents, team members and doctors, will be screened for COVID-19 risk and have their temperature taken. If you have been sick or had a fever in the past 14 days, please call to reschedule your appointment. Any patient who has a temperature greater than 100 degrees will not be seen.
  • All patients should check in from their vehicles by phone call and remain in their vehicles until the team calls to notify them we are ready to take them to the clinic

  • All parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to wait in their vehicles during their children’s appointments

  • If patients prefer not to enter the office alone, they are limited to 1 adult to accompany them (this includes the lobby). To be clear, no siblings will be permitted to enter the office.

  • We have removed all snacks, magazines and common use items from the lobby and discontinued the use of our games and touchscreens

  • Our toothbrushing stations will be closed (please brush before you arrive at our office)

  • We will limit the use of our clinic chairs in order to provide greater spacing between patients

  • We will use Air-free handpieces when possible to decrease aerosol formation

We believe that we can now administer treatment in a way that is safe for our patients and that the risk of unsupervised or postponed treatment outweighs the minimal risk of contracting the virus in our office. However, we understand that some patients may not yet be comfortable visiting our office and encourage them to reach out to us about how they can set up a virtual appointment.

Thank you for your continued patience as we work to provide the highest quality of care while ensuring a safe environment for our patients and team.  We know this has been a difficult time for many people, but we continue to believe we will get through this by working together.

We continue to stay vigilant to the dynamic situation we are facing with COVID-19 and how it impacts our practice, patients and team.  In an effort to keep you fully informed we wanted to share a few updates with you. 

In accordance with the latest guidance from the Oklahoma Dental Association and the Governor, Dr. Cooper and Dr. Misner have extended our office closure through April 30th. If you have an appointment scheduled in April, our team will be reaching out to you very soon to re-appoint you. Please keep in mind that further closure may be necessary as we are waiting for guidelines from the American Association of Orthodontists and other governing bodies. We are also working quickly to put systems in place that enable us to offer virtual appointments and “curb side pick up” when appropriate. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through the challenges of this extended office closure. 

New patients are encouraged to utilize our digital consult process using their smart phone. By taking a few photos and answering a few questions, One of our doctors can give you an estimated treatment plan and financial arrangement. You may also call us at 918-488-8889 to reserve your complimentary new patient exam as we anticipate high demand once we re-open.

Many of you who are currently in treatment may have a few questions about what you should be doing during this time.  We wanted to try to answer some of those questions by giving you some basic instructions.

Braces Patients:  

Continue to wear your elastics as prescribed until your original appointment date and then begin wearing them at night only until you are able to be seen.  If you run low on elastics, we have a “Patient Supply Box” on the northeast corner of our building that contains various elastic sizes as well as wax and elastic hooks.  If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to follow the instructions below to submit photos for a virtual appointment.

Be extra careful with what you eat as to not break any brackets. 

If you do notice a loose bracket (no longer attached to your tooth) please call our office.

Invisalign Patients:

Wear the aligners you were given just as you were instructed to.  When you have worn the last aligner for 1 week, take a few pictures of your teeth with the aligners in and text them to us (see photo template and instructions below).  Start wearing your aligners every night and not during the day to help them last longer. If, after viewing your photos, we feel that you may proceed to new trays, we will make arrangements to get them to you.

If you get to a point where your aligners are not fitting well, stop progressing and keep wearing those aligners full time until we are able to see you.  

Motion Appliance Patients:

Wear elastics/retainer as prescribed until your original appointment date.  Once that date has arrived, please take a few photos of your teeth without the elastics or retainer in place and send them to us for further instructions (see photo template and instructions below). Then take one additional photo of the lower teeth with the retainer in.

If you run low, we keep extra bags of elastics for this appliance in our “Patient Supply Box” on the northeast side of our building. 

Retainer Patients:

Continue to wear your retainers as you were instructed to at your last visit. If you have an appointment that needs to be rescheduled, you may take the photos as instructed below and submit for a virtual appointment. 

If you have questions about your retainer fit, please take photos with your retainers in and send them to us for further instruction (see template and instructions below)

Virtual Appointments:

If you are in treatment and have concerns/questions regarding the position of your teeth or are an Invisalign or Motion patient who has reached the point we referenced above, please take these photos of your teeth and text them to 539-302-9028 along with your name. (We found using our fingers or spoons was helpful in getting the lips out of the way). Dr. Cooper or Dr. Misner will review your photos and respond with instructions or answers to your questions.
